PROJECT JOURNAL

Square Custom Demo Environment

A client came to Chicago Fabrications looking for a clean, modern environment for a Square event centered around product demonstrations. They already had a strong vision for the space, giving our team a clear direction from the beginning.

Our scope included four custom demo booths, matching counters, a stage, and a branded backdrop. Chicago Fabrications handled the project from drawings and fabrication through finishing, delivery, installation, and strike.

The goal was simple: create a polished environment that supported the demonstrations without competing with them.

A Clean, Product-Focused Event Environment

The design was intentionally minimal. Rather than filling the space with unnecessary details or oversized branding, each element was designed to give Square's products and demonstrations room to take center stage.

The four demo booths created dedicated areas for interaction, while the coordinating counters, stage, and backdrop helped establish a consistent visual language throughout the event.

The result was an environment that felt organized, approachable, and easy to navigate.

Custom Walnut Veneer Demo Booths

One of the defining materials throughout the build was walnut veneer.

The goal was to introduce the warmth and natural character of wood without making the environment feel rustic. Walnut provided a premium finish that worked naturally with the clean, contemporary design of the space.

Using the same material language across the demo booths and counters also helped visually connect the different elements of the activation.

Curved Details and Custom Counters

The demo booths incorporated a curved top detail, softening the otherwise straight architectural lines and giving each structure a more refined, finished appearance.

The matching counters followed the same design direction, carrying the material palette and minimal aesthetic throughout the space.

These subtle details helped make the fabrication feel intentional without taking attention away from the products being demonstrated.

Fabricated in Our Chicago Shop

Once the drawings were approved, fabrication moved into our Chicago shop.

Our team produced the demo booths, counters, stage elements, and backdrop in-house, coordinating the individual components so they would come together as one cohesive environment at the venue.

Building the elements in our shop also allowed us to prepare and finish the components before they were loaded for delivery and installation.

Delivery, Installation and Strike

Once fabrication was complete, Chicago Fabrications transported the finished elements to the venue and handled the on-site installation and setup.

With the four demo stations, counters, stage, and backdrop in place, the complete environment came together as intended: clean, organized, and focused on the product experience.

After the event, our crew returned for strike and removal of the fabricated elements.

Built for More Than One Event

The life of a custom event build doesn't necessarily have to end when the first event is over.

For this project, the displays were designed with future use in mind. The client planned to continue traveling with the structures, allowing the original fabrication to support additional Square events rather than rebuilding the environment each time.

Chicago Fabrications is also building custom shipping crates for the booths and other components, helping protect the fabricated pieces as they travel to future events.

This approach extends the useful life of the original build while giving the client a consistent set of event assets that can be deployed again.

Custom Crating for Reusable Event Displays

For custom displays that need to travel, transportation and protection are an important part of the overall fabrication strategy.

Custom crates can help protect finished surfaces, dimensional elements, counters, and other components during shipping and storage. They also make it easier to organize individual pieces as a display moves between events.

By considering fabrication, breakdown, packing, and future transportation, the displays can be built not only for their first installation but for repeated use.

Modern Event Fabrication Doesn't Have to Be Complicated

Not every brand activation needs to be loud or visually overwhelming to make an impact.
For this Square event, the combination of walnut veneer, clean architectural forms, curved details, custom counters, and a restrained overall design created an environment that felt premium without distracting from its primary purpose.

Sometimes the most successful fabrication is the kind that feels effortless once everything is installed.
